Vladimir Putin: CIS countries resolve their disputes themselves

The President of Russia spoke about the disputes between the member states of the Commonwealth. Vladimir Putin expressed his opinion at an informal CIS summit on Monday.

He drew attention to the fact that another area of cooperation between the CIS countries was the maintenance of security and stability in the region. At the same time, the challenges and threats in this area are only growing from year to year.

«We have to admit that disagreements also arise between the member states of the Commonwealth. The main thing, however, is that we are ready and will cooperate. Even if some problematic issues arise, we strive to solve them ourselves, together, providing each other with comradely and mediation assistance. It is in this constructive vein that the Commonwealth countries interact in the fight against terrorism and extremism, cross-border crime, drug trafficking and corruption,» Vladimir Putin said.

He recalled that close contacts were maintained this year between the national security agencies and intelligence services, as well as other structures responsible for ensuring law, order and internal stability. In addition, the CIS countries are working in the field of preserving a single cultural and humanitarian space. The head of the Russian Federation also noted that the CIS countries have a lot in common, including the Russian language, which is a powerful unifying force that holds the Commonwealth states together.

«Deepening of interaction within the framework of the CIS meets the fundamental interests of the peoples of our countries, helps to more effectively solve the problems of the socio-economic development of the Commonwealth states and strengthen regional security,» he concluded.

The President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov also participated in the informal CIS summit. The head of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, also attended the meeting.
