Restrictions on electricity consumption may be imposed in regions of Kazakhstan

Restrictions on electricity consumption could be imposed in the Northern, Southern and Western zones of the energy system of Kazakhstan. Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press service of KEGOC JSC.

A significant increase in energy consumption is registered in December in the Unified Energy System of Kazakhstan. So, a historical maximum of consumption was registered on December 7 — 16,459 megawatts, while the total generation of the country’s power plants was only 15,203 megawatts.

The deficit was covered by unscheduled power exchange from the Russian energy system.

«The systematic shortage of generation to cover the need for electrical energy and power arises due to frequent emergency and unscheduled repairs at power plants. In the context of significant imbalances, the system operator, in order to ensure reliable operation of the Unified Energy System of Kazakhstan, is forced to declare a «failure» mode in the Northern, Southern, as well as in the Western zones of the Kazakhstani electric energy system with the introduction of restrictions on the consumption of electricity by large industrial enterprises,» the statement says.
