Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov was posthumously awarded the Alisher Navoi International Prize «For Contribution to the Unity of the Turkic World». Press service of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The decision was made by the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States.
The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev presented the international award to the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov.
Sadyr Japarov, on behalf of the Kyrgyz people and on his own behalf, expressed his deep gratitude to Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Uzbek people for nominating the outstanding writer for the prestigious award, taking into account the huge contribution that he made to the development of world literature, Turkish literature, and culture in general.
The head of state emphasized that the work of Chingiz Aitmatov can be called an eternal and common heritage.
President Sadyr Japarov noted that the award will be handed over to the writer’s family. It will be stored in the House-Museum of Chingiz Aitmatov in Bishkek.
