The border guards of Dostuk-Avtodorozhny checkpoint, together with the employees of the State Customs Service, prevented two attempts to smuggle foreign currency. The Department of Information and Communications of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.
«On the morning of October 19, two citizens of Kyrgyzstan arrived at Dostuk-Avtodorozhny checkpoint on their way to Uzbekistan. When passing through border and customs control, $120,000 were found in their bags. At 6.30 p.m., a border patrol detained a citizen of Uzbekistan who was trying to smuggle $18,000 from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan,» the statement says.
In both cases, citizens tried to transport currency in violation of customs legislation of the republic — without declaring it. The detainees were handed over to law enforcement agencies.
