Expert names possible intermediaries between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan

Former deputy minister of defense, military expert Murat Beishenov noted ongoing militarization at a round table discussion «Results of the Astana summits. Role of Kyrgyzstan in integration processes».

According to him, it seems that everyone is preparing for war. «Even in the countries, where the economy is not at a very high level. Yes, policy has become open, and security — unsteady,» he said.

Murat Beishenov cited the last major armed clash at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in Batken region as an example. The military expert believes that an agreement on 300 kilometers of the disputed territory will not be reached. An intermediary is needed.

Why not to choose Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan as intermediaries? As for Russia, it is in a rather sensitive position now.

He believes that the border issue could be resolved through economic and diplomatic means. Neither the Kyrgyz economy, nor the Tajik one can afford a war.

Expert Yury Pogiba did not agree that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan should be invited. He insists on building a dialogue within the framework of the CSTO.

The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported on Wednesday about provocations from the Tajik side. According to the state service, since September 25, the Tajik side has been preparing firing positions: it has been digging trenches along the entire perimeter of the state border with Kyrgyzstan.
