Fate of Kempir-Abad reservoir: Authorities promise to answer all questions

The President of Kyrgyzstan holds a meeting with residents of Uzgen district. Spokesman for the head of state, Erbol Sultanbaev, told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, people who have gathered near the building of the district administration are invited to the hall.

Erbol Sultanbaev added that the local population would be provided with detailed information on the settlement of issues at the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border, as well as on Kempir-Abad reservoir.

Earlier it was reported that Sadyr Japarov was meeting with residents of Uzgen district on the issue of Kempir-Abad reservoir in the building of the district administration.

Dozens of citizens, who were standing outside, demanded an open meeting with the president and the provision of full information on the questions asked.

Local residents express their fears in connection with the possible transfer of the reservoir to Uzbekistan and demand clarifications from the head of state on the latest protocol.

On September 26, 2022, the head of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, said that Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan were ready to sign a border agreement. However, the authorities did not provide any details about the terms of the agreements.

Journalists reported that many residents were not allowed to attend the meeting. According to them, only specially trained people were allowed to enter the building. The villagers are holding posters with slogans: «Authorities, hands off Kempir-Abad!», «People will make a decision on Kempir-Abad issue!», «It is better to give life than land!» and «Cancel protocols».
