Schoolchildren in Bishkek hold campaign to support their peers from Batken

An initiative group of Bishkek schoolchildren organized a charity fair to raise funds for their peers from Batken. Coordinator of the initiative group Children to Children, a student of the 10th grade of the capital’s school, Alina Dyusheeva, told.

They managed to raise 19,620 soms, which were transferred to the single treasury account of the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Local entrepreneurs, children, well-known people, and a kids dance group participated in the charity fair.

As the children from the implementation group noted, this is their first project of such scale. «We very much hope that we will be able to help the affected children,» the organizers, schoolchildren of Bishkek, said.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 62 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
