Invasion of Kyrgyzstan: Sadyr Japarov makes statement on situation

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov delivered a video address on the armed conflict at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

He noted that the state has enough forces to fully meet the needs of military personnel and evacuated citizens.

«Two years ago, our servicemen did not have enough weapons and ammunition, they wore old uniforms, but everything has changed. The army becomes more powerful in all respects, acquiring the strength, both morally and materially, to ensure the security of the state. The country has the means to immediately rebuild houses destroyed and burned during the conflict. We have noticeably strengthened in a short period of time, and this greatly worries both internal and external enemies,» Sadyr Japarov said.

The head of state called on the men and young men who want to go to Batken for calm.

«Do not think that the military potential of the state has remained at the same level. Thank God, the army is in a different state today. We have courageous warriors and enough strength to repulse the violators of the borders. This is evidenced by the fact that those who invaded our land received their punishment. We ask the people to maintain internal calm and support the actions of the authorities and the armed forces with their unity,» the president said.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 163 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

By the decree of the President Sadyr Japarov, September 19, 2022 was declared a Day of National Mourning in the Kyrgyz Republic.
