«We note that the draft resolution, which was considered for the first time by the UN General Assembly, was submitted for study by the sponsoring states for a very short time. At present, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic has completed the procedure of coordinating the country’s position with the interested state bodies of the republic, in connection with which a positive decision was made to support this resolution. In this regard, and in accordance with the rules of procedures of the UN General Assembly, Kyrgyzstan will soon send its final position on this resolution to the UN Secretariat,» the Foreign Ministry said today.
It is emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is fully committed to the international efforts of the UN and its member states in combating climate change, protecting the environment, biodiversity, glaciers and other natural resources.
«President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov has stated this many times, including during his speeches at the Climate Change Summit in Glasgow and the opening ceremony of the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development in Rome,» the Foreign Ministry noted.
It should be noted that 161 countries voted for the resolution, eight abstained: Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Cambodia, China, Ethiopia, Iran, Syria and Russia. No country voted against.
