The international conference «Afghanistan — Security and Economic Development» has ended in Tashkent. Press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry reports.
The conference was attended by delegations from 20 countries, as well as representatives of various international organizations and experts from think tanks. Afghanistan was represented by the acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and the acting Finance Minister Hidayatullah Badri.
Participants of the conference read out the address of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which states that the overall priority should be the restoration of the economy of Afghanistan. This is an important condition for achieving lasting peace in the country and includes its integration into interregional economic processes, implementation of infrastructure and socially significant projects.
The Kyrgyz delegation was headed by the Special Representative of the Head of State for Special Assignments Taalatbek Masadykov.
He noted that the further development of the situation in Afghanistan largely depends on how the world community and the countries of the region will help return «this long-suffering republic to the international legal field.» He called on the world community to move towards more constructive cooperation with the current Afghan government, provide the Afghan people with the necessary political and effective economic assistance and support them in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
A number of regional economic projects were presented within the framework of the conference, the importance of their implementation for ensuring the sustainable development of Afghanistan, the states of Central and South Asia, including the construction of Uzbekistan — Afghanistan — Pakistan, China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway, as well as the sub-regional energy project CASA 1000 was stressed.
