Construction of first solar power plant starts in Issyk-Kul region

Construction of the first solar power station (SPS) in Kyrgyzstan with a capacity of 300 megawatts has begun in Toru-Aigyr in Issyk-Kul region. Bishkek Solar LLC, which is building the facility, reports.

Toru-Aigyr 2022 is being built on the basis of public-private partnership. Partner on the part of the state is the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision. Construction of the first 50 megawatts begins together with partners from Kazakhstan — TGS Construction Company.

«The total capacity will be 300 megawatts, but we plan to bring it up to 1 gigawatt in the future. One square meter in Toru-Aigyr can produce up to 1,600 watts. This is the maximum figure in Kyrgyzstan,» the head of Bishkek Solar LLC Azamat Iskembaev told.

Agreement on implementation of the project was signed at the first Eurasian Economic Forum between the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, Green Finance Center of the Astana International Financial Center and Bishkek Solar LLC. The EDB is ready to allocate $40 million for the project.

The solar power station will be able to generate 600 million kilowatt-hours per year. This is equivalent to using over 140 million cubic meters of gas.
