Nearly half of grain seeds do not meet standards in Kyrgyzstan

Almost half of the grain seeds in Kyrgyzstan do not meet the standards. Press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan reported.

«At least 38,200 tons of seeds of spring grain crops were tested in the republic, including 14,500 tons of spring wheat and 23,600 tons of spring barley. Of the tested seeds of grain crops, 37,600 tons, or 58.8 percent, met the sowing conditions, including 14,200 tons of spring wheat, or 61.2 percent, 23,300 tons of spring barley, or 57.5 percent,» the statement says.

It is reported that 64,000 tons of seeds of grain crops were planted throughout the country with a need of 66,100 tons, or 96.7 percent, 23,200 tons of which were seeds of spring wheat with a need of 23,600 tons, or 98.2 percent. At least 40,600 tons of seeds of spring barley were planted with the demand of 42,300 tons, or 95.9 percent.

«The republic is 100 percent provided with seeds of buckwheat, rapeseed, soybeans, tobacco, oats and legumes,» the ministry said.

Provision with sainfoin seeds reached 80.2 percent, alfalfa — 75.1 percent, cotton — 94.8 percent, potatoes — 97.5 percent, corn — 82.1 percent, rice — 99.8 percent, sunflower — 98.3 percent, safflower — 93.6 percent, sugar beet — 40.7 percent.
