The 10th meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Council took place on Friday. Press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan reported.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Japarov and the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. The parties considered issues related to cooperation in the trade-economic and water-energy spheres, in the field of agriculture and environmental protection.
Akylbek Japarov noted a positive trend in trade and economic relations between the two countries.
«Following the results of 2021, the volume of mutual trade increased by 35 percent, amounting to $1 billion. We are aimed at bringing bilateral trade to $2 billion in the near future,» he said.
The head of the Cabinet reminded that a visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Kyrgyzstan was expected. Therefore, the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Council was a kind of preparatory work for the upcoming visit, which «will make a significant contribution to the development of cooperation between countries in all areas.»
The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers stressed that within the framework of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states, it is planned to hold the Days of Culture of Kyrgyzstan in Kazakhstan, erect monuments to the hero of the Manas epic in the city of Nur-Sultan and the Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbaev in Bishkek, as well as a number of others events.
Akylbek Japarov noted the need to intensify the project on the construction of an industrial trade and logistics center on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border.
He expressed confidence that the friendly and fraternal ties that have developed between the two peoples would help to move together towards a common goal — the prosperity and well-being of the peoples.
The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan noted that the previously reached agreement between the heads of the two states on bringing bilateral trade to $1 billion had been achieved.
«I am convinced that the decisions taken today will make a significant contribution to the development and deepening of full-scale cooperation between our countries,» Alikhan Smailov concluded.
