Kyrgyzstan receives over $800 million from EBRD for 30 years

Kyrgyzstan has implemented projects with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for more than $800 million for 30 years. The Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UK Ulan Dzhusupov met with the management of the EBRD at the headquarters of the organization in London.

At the meeting, the diplomat discussed joint events timed to the 30th anniversary of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EBRD with EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia Zsuzsanna Hargitai, and the Regional Head of Kyrgyzstan for EBRD Ayten Rustamova. At least 207 projects worth more than $800 million have been implemented during this period.

The parties also considered new projects ready for launch: Bishkek buses, green cities, development of the irrigation system and construction of Chakan HPP.

EBRD fully shares the priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of green economy and renewable energy, and is ready to assist in their implementation, as well as in solving existing problems in the energy sector of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Zsuzsanna Hargitai emphasized that the bank has positively assessed the resolution of the dispute between the Kyrgyz Republic and Centerra Gold over the Kumtor mine and that this would improve the country’s future investment prospects.

The importance of EBRD support for investment projects, intended for Kyrgyzstan, was stressed on April 22 at a meeting with a member of the EBRD Board of Governors Çağatay İmirgi, representing the interests of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Regarding the resolution of the dispute between the Kyrgyz side and the Canadian company Centerra Gold, Çağatay İmirgi also noted that this would help restore international confidence in the investment climate of the Kyrgyz Republic.
