Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev comments on situation in Ukraine

The world is on the verge of dividing into right and wrong. The Foreign Affairs Minister of Kyrgyzstan said in an interview with the German Deutsche Welle media outlet, commenting on the situation in Ukraine.

In his interview, Ruslan Kazakbaev noted that, like the entire world community, Kyrgyzstan is following the situation in Ukraine with particular concern and anxiety.

«From the first days we have been in favor of resolution of this conflict exclusively by political and diplomatic means at the negotiating table. If the old mechanisms and formats for negotiations are obsolete, if they have lost their effectiveness, it is necessary to look for new ways, new formats, new mechanisms. We should hear each other and try to understand each other, because, we believe, the world is on the edge of disaster and maybe even the third world war,» the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister said.

He also noted that Kyrgyzstan would maintain and strengthen relations with both Russia and Germany, and stressed that there should be no question of choosing one side or the other — and there is no such question now.

«I will repeat myself, we are following the situation in Ukraine with concern. But while we stand for a peaceful resolution of this conflict, we, at the same time, advocate for indivisibility of the security of the world community. The world is on the verge of dividing into right and wrong. And there is a choice to be made: either we will build a united, prosperous world community or we may find ourselves on different poles, divided by political, ideological, economic, religious and other considerations. I think the latter is categorically unacceptable for any country. We live in the XXI century,» Ruslan Kazakbaev said.

The Foreign Minister also told about the impact of economic sanctions, imposed against Russia because of the war in Ukraine, on the country, Turkey’s role as a mediator to resolve the conflict by political and diplomatic means and the current problems of Kyrgyz labor migrants in Russia.
