Every 67th resident of Kyrgyzstan faced cyberattacks in 2021

Every 67th resident of Kyrgyzstan has faced cyberattacks at year-end 2021. Valery Zubanov, commercial director of Kaspersky Lab in Central Asia, told at a press conference at 24.kg news agency today.

According to him, last year Kaspersky Lab registered a total of about 250 million attacks targeting users. A significant part of them, 42 percent, were in one way or another related to attacks on financial institutions.

«You have to understand that we are all under attack. There is interest from cybercriminal groups to attack bank infrastructure, to attack remote service users. We understand that some financial institutions have limited budget, there is an objective shortage of personnel in terms of cyber security. In order to somehow involve the active IT community in Kyrgyzstan and neighboring countries, we announced the launch of Bug Bounty platform,» Valery Zubanov told.

Olzhas Satiyev, President of Cyberattacks Analysis and Investigation Center, said that the Bug Bounty platform makes it possible to find vulnerabilities in the financial sector protection system and eliminate them.

«This platform is needed to improve business cybersecurity. It allows sector experts to find vulnerabilities and report them. When they find a problem, tell about it, the government or the financial sector checks it out. When it is confirmed, the expert who finds it receives a reward. Such systems work all over the world. In Kazakhstan, we have been able to successfully launch the platform and have already found over 1,000 vulnerabilities. The system already has over 1,000 examiners. When you connect to it, you let them check for vulnerabilities. They will monitor the infrastructure all the time, find vulnerabilities and fix them.

Security is not a product, it is a process. It’s hard for banks or government agencies to monitor the entire infrastructure. Such platforms allow to solve this problem. In Kyrgyzstan, we launch the platform, give access to specialists, but we will not have access to the vulnerabilities themselves. They will be eliminated within the country,» Olzhas Satiyev told.
