Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov and the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a bilateral meeting.
Akylbek Japarov said that Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations have positive dynamics to date. At the end of 2021, the growth in mutual trade between the two countries increased by 30.9 percent, amounting to $ 1,059.5 billion. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers believes the figure should be doubled. He also spoke about the results of a recent working group meeting on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
«The Kyrgyz side welcomed the agreement on installation of monitors in work offices to observe the situation regarding the unhindered passage of cargo through the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border in real time. I hope this will make it possible to avoid the congestion of cargo carriers at the border. It is important for Kyrgyzstan that goods produced in our countries have an advantage in the domestic markets of the two countries as compared to products imported from non-CIS countries. We are in favor of creating favorable conditions not only for entrepreneurs, agricultural producers of our countries and elimination of existing barriers in trade, but also for ensuring free movement of goods and maintaining a stable situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border,» Akylbek Japarov said.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov also noted the positive dynamics in trade between the two republics, stressing the importance of bringing it to $2 billion.
During the meeting, the parties discussed construction of industrial trade and logistics complexes near Ak-Tilek and Karasu road checkpoints and a wholesale and distribution center in Kyrgyzstan, opening of a branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Bishkek, and other issues.
At the end of the meeting, Akylbek Japarov invited Alikhan Smailov to visit Kyrgyzstan in April 2022 and hold the 10th meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakh Intergovernmental Council.
