Volunteers in Kyrgyzstan to once again participate in COVID-19 study

Volunteers in Kyrgyzstan are again invited to participate in COVID-19 study. The head of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Viral Infections Control Zuridin Nurmatov told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, the next stage of the study of herd immunity to coronavirus infection is conducted in the republic.

Only those volunteers who took the blood test in 2021 are invited. There were a total of 9,400 such people across the country. Invitations are sent by e-mail.

The purpose of the study is to determine the persistence of immune response after COVID-19 infection and its dynamics personally in each volunteer, as well as to determine post-vaccine antibodies, if a vaccine was received. Participation is still free.

The blood tests will be taken on February 21-25 and the results will be ready in March. Fifteen centers will be opened in Bishkek, but testing is also available in other regions. Data are being collected for all age groups.

«As a result, we will get answers to many questions, including vaccination strategies and how long antibodies last in the Kyrgyzstan’s population,» Zuridin Nurmatov said.

In total, he said, this is the fifth stage of the study; it has been conducted three times by the World Health Organization and twice — in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology.

According to official data, 200,175 cases of community-acquired pneumonia and COVID-19 have been registered in the republic since March 2020.
