The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan plans to start construction of Kambar-Ata 1 this year. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov said at a press conference.
According to him, the country needs to further increase its own capacities so that such situations in the Unified Energy System do not greatly affect the economy and the life of the country.
«The first phase of construction will start this year. Almost $18.8 million is provided for capital investments in order we can start building infrastructure and prepare for the start of construction,» he said.
Akylbek Japarov added that the first stage of the project will require $486 million. «In the next three years, we will be able to launch one of the generators. We are preparing. It all depends on the weather, the designers. The Finance Ministry found the money,» he said.
According to the head of the Cabinet, it is planned to finance the construction both at the expense of the republican budget and investments. «Both Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan expressed their desire to participate in the construction. Negotiations are held by power engineers, after which economists and financiers will join the process. The final political decision will be made at the level of the heads of state,» he said.
Kyrgyzstan was left without electricity due to a power outage. Social media users from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan also reported the lack of electricity. At the moment, a phased restoration of electricity supply continues.
