Kyrgyzstan to receive $29 million for restoration of forests

The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan will receive a $29 million grant from the UN Food and Agriculture Program (FAO). The Deputy Minister Nurlan Sheripbaev announced at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on international affairs, defense, security and migration.

According to him, the grant is allocated for seven years to restore the republic’s forests and pastures.

«This is a grant. After the implementation of the project, we will plant forests on 6,000 hectares and restore destroyed pastures on 644,000 hectares of land,» Nurlan Sheripbaev told.

Deputy Chingiz Aidarbekov noted that not the entire amount is provided in the form of a grant. «$657,000 is allocated from the budget, another $15,000 — from the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund as a loan. In addition, the table indicates that you will spend $24.5 million on services of the local and foreign consultants, conferences. At least $109,000 is provided for the salary of an expert on gender issues,» he said.

The Deputy Minister refuted the deputy’s words. «I will give you information later. $2,600 million are provided for the services of consultants,» Nurlan Sheripbaev added.
