The current year 2022 is expected to be difficult in terms of water supply. The Minister of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan Askarbek Dzhanybekov announced at a briefing.
According to him, 2021 gave understanding of the shortcomings, what needs special attention so that agricultural producers can get the maximum profit from their activities.
«We are trying hard to invest in irrigation. One billion soms have already been allocated so that the staff of the State Water Resources Agency can prepare the interfarm network as much as possible. We are also actively working with local governments to improve the situation. When transporting water for irrigation though the inter-farm network, we lose about 30 percent, and we lose at least 30 percent in the on-farm network. The allocated money will make it possible to repair 661 canals, we will lay concrete «covers» at the bottom of the canals at 114 kilometers, and we will also do mechanized cleaning of 883 kilometers of the irrigation networks,» the official said.
He stressed that equipment worth 2.5 billion soms will be purchased for the water sector. It is planned that each district water management department will have an opportunity to overhaul irrigation networks on their own.
