Kyrgyzstan to supply Russian Navy with equipment worth $ 5.4 million

A contract for the supply of equipment to the Russian Navy for $ 5.4 million was signed on Tuesday in Bishkek. Management of Dastan corporation, whose representatives signed an agreement with partners from Rosoboronexport, informed TASS.

«Signing of a contract with Rosoboronexport on the supply of 54 hardware modules to the Russian Navy for 459 million soms took place today at the plant,» a representative of the corporation’s management said. According to her, the equipment will soon be delivered from Kyrgyzstan to one of the Russian factories.

Dastan corporation expects that the agreement will be the start of resumption of economic ties between Kyrgyz manufacturers of military products and Russian enterprises.

Dastan was founded in 1956, it is the only enterprise in Kyrgyzstan after the collapse of the USSR that produces defense products. In Soviet times, the company was engaged in the manufacture of sea torpedoes. Up to 400 torpedoes were produced annually at Dastan, but at present, due to the lack of customers, these volumes have decreased 10-20 times. In 2009, Russia planned to buy out a controlling stake in the enterprise, but later abandoned these intentions.
