Elections 2021: Political scientist warns of risks on election day

A fair election race is not a guarantee that professionals will come to Parliament. This is the opinion of the participants of the round table discussion: «Political environment in the Kyrgyz Republic: before and after the elections.»

According to a political scientist Emil Dzhuraev, the will alone is not enough for holding fair elections, as well as for carrying out reforms and building a strong developed state. Competencies, skills and knowledge are necessary for this in addition to desire, and it is necessary to work to achieve this.

The expert believes that due to the new electoral law, risk of local bribery has increased. The political scientist urged to be vigilant so that there would be no mass sale and purchase of votes in single-seat constituencies on the election day.

Elections are scheduled for November 28 in Kyrgyzstan. At least 54 deputies of the Parliament are elected according to a proportional system (from open lists of candidates of political parties) in single electoral districts, 36 deputies are elected according to the majoritarian system in single-mandate constituencies.
