«Presence of independent trade unions is essential,» EU Special Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore told reporters.
According to him, the European Union encourages its partners to ensure that all countries comply with international conventions. Among other things, these are documents on the labor rights of people to unite into trade unions.
«These topics were touched upon during the negotiations with Kyrgyzstan’s authorities. As far as I know, President Sadyr Japarov did not sign the new law on trade unions, returning it with objections,» Eamon Gilmore said.
In addition, commenting on the visit to Kyrgyzstan, he told that he had a meeting with civil society. They gave an assessment of the human rights situation in the Kyrgyz Republic.
«We always attach great importance to what еру civil society says. We also had meetings with the OSCE and the UN Human Rights Office, fellow diplomats from the EU and diplomats from other states. All this gave us the opportunity to get a complete picture of what is happening in Kyrgyzstan.
