President: When official suspected of corruption, relatives hasten to justify

"When an official is suspected of corruption, relatives hasten to justify him. We have this,” said the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov in an interview with Kabar news agency.

According to the head of state, all the goals set in the fight against corruption will be achieved. He admitted that the fight against corruption was one of the challenges. But work in this direction is ongoing.

"Everyone supports the fight against corruption, but in reality everything is a little different. Our population reaches 6.5 million people. When you ask, it turns out that everyone is someone's brother, parent-in-law and a relative. When an official is suspected of corruption, his relatives hasten to justify him. But such a phenomenon is also gradually becoming a thing of the past,” he said.

The head of state noted great support from the people in the merciless fight against corruption. The most important thing in the process, Sooronbai Jeenbekov believes, is the purge of state bodies that are called to fight corruption.

"These are the judicial system, the prosecutor’s office, the police, the Financial police, the Accounts Chamber and others. To get results in the fight against corruption, these bodies need to be purged of "unclean employees,” the president stressed.

Sooronbai Jeenbekov considers digitalization as the main tool in the fight against corruption. It will increase the efficiency of state bodies, reduce the human factor, and reduce corruption in the Tax and Customs Services and other departments. The president did not forget to mention the reform of the judicial system. He promised that the people would see its results in a couple of years.
