Protester detained at Embassy of Russia in Bishkek

An activist Nurlan Karymshakov was detained near the building of the Embassy of Russia in Bishkek. He protested against the policy of the Russian President Vladimir Putin. Human rights activist Rita Karasartova told journalists.

According to her, the Kyrgyzstani was taken to the police station together with his wife on March 27. Rita Karasartova reported that police voiced the placards with calls for interethnic strife as grounds for detention.

«Activist’s placards had inscriptions such as «Putin is an aggressor», «Occupant», «Killer», and also «We don’t need the military base.» The police, through experts, concluded that the inscriptions called for ethnic hatred, and opened a criminal case under Article 313 «Inciting racial, ethnic, national, religious or interregional hostility (discord),» Rita Karasartova told.

House of the protester was searched.

Nurlan Karymshakov and his wife are currently at the Bishkek police department. Human rights activists say they have not been fed for 15 hours.

The state visit of the Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kyrgyzstan began today.
