Pressure on Super Info. Bishkek residents hold rally to support journalists

Residents of Bishkek hold rally in support of Super Info newspaper. It began at the building of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes.

Editor of the media outlet Shaista Shatmanova was summoned for questioning to the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes today.

According to participants of the peaceful rally, pressure on Kyrgyzstan’s most widely circulated newspaper is politically motivated.

«There is pressure on the freedom of speech. We all know that Super Info is the most large-circulation newspaper and has its own audience,» one of the rally participants, civil activist Adil Turdukulov, told.

According to the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes, the editor of the newspaper will be interrogated within the criminal case on abuse of authority in a commercial or other organization.

The Financial police believe that there is a significant difference in the circulation of the newspaper. And Media Support Center NGO, on the basis of which Super Info is published, said that there were no violations. Owner of the newspaper, Kylychbek Sultan, believes that it was an attempted raider seizure of the opposition newspaper.
