Azimbek Beknazarov proposes to fine officials not speaking state language

Azimbek Beknazarov, the former Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan, offers to fine officials not speaking the state language. He sent the corresponding address to the president of the country, the Parliament and the Government.

He explains his initiative by the need to improve the position of the state language. According to Azimbek Beknazarov, the state of the Kyrgyz language deteriorated significantly in 2000, after the provision on the status of the Russian language as an official language was introduced into the Constitution.

Nowadays, the head of a law firm complains that advertising is increasingly being placed in Russian, English, Arabic, Korean and Chinese.

Azimbek Beknazarov and other authors of the appeal propose to require obligatory knowledge of the state language when applying for the state service, to put in order the texts placed on advertising sites together with the National Commission on State Language.

Azimbek Beknazarov proposes to introduce fine in the amount of 5,500 soms for officials not speaking the Kyrgyz language.
