European Union allocates €6.5 mln to support social security in Kyrgyzstan

The European Union has transferred €6.5 million to support the social protection sector of Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The grant was transferred to the account of the Central Treasury of the Ministry of Finance. This is the second payment of €26 million allocated by the EU for the budget support program in order to help the government of the Kyrgyz Republic implement reforms in the field of social protection.

The first transfer of €4.25 million was made in early 2016. The final payment within the program is expected at the end of 2019.

«The main goal of the support from the European Union is to expand the range and quality of social services, especially for children at risk, implement state policies to protect children, support basic reforms and successes in social assistance within previous programs and ensure their continuity,» the EU Delegation said.

The program of budget support of the social security sector in Kyrgyzstan is implemented within the framework of the EU’s long-term indicative program for 2014-2020.
