Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan decide not to use weapons in border incidents

Working meeting of the delegations of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic and border troops of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan took place in the city of Buston (Tajikistan). The Public Relations and Media Department of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

In order to ensure stability on the state border of the two countries, and taking into account the border incident on June 4, a number of concrete practical decisions were made.

Thus, it is strictly forbidden to use weapons during border incidents, except for cases of a clear threat to the life and health of border guards. At the same time, servicemen must act in strict compliance with the national legislation of their state.

Heads of border units in case of conflicts on the state border should not take any active action before the arrival of the border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The sides expressed their concern over the frequent incidents at the joint border, noting at the same time their intentional nature. Particular attention was paid to the incident in Maksat area of Lyailyak district. Heads of border agencies agreed in the course of investigations to consider only the lawfulness of the actions of servicemen in resolving this border conflict.

The heads of the delegations discussed joint measures to prevent and resolve border incidents and expressed their desire to strictly observe the norms of international law, bilateral agreements, as well as the requirements of intergovernmental and interdepartmental protocols. The parties agreed to render all possible assistance to the investigating authorities in conducting investigations into incidents, involving the use of weapons or infliction of harm to the health of servicemen.

In addition, the border guards of the two countries must intensify the explanatory and preventive work among the population of the border areas.
