Kyrgyzstan intends to prohibit use of plastic bags

It is planned to repeatedly ban the use of plastic bags in Kyrgyzstan. The Director of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry, Abdykalyk Rustamov, informed 24.kg news agency.

According to him, the bill was sent to the government for approval. «We are introducing a ban on the use of small plastic bags, which are given in supermarkets and in bazaars and which are not processed. In the south of the country, for example, paper bags are used, why cannot we do the same in Bishkek?» Abdykalyk Rustamov told.

When asked whether there will be fines for their use, he replied:

We just drafted the bill and did not amend the Administrative Code. Fines imply that one can use plastic bags, be punished and continue working. A ban is a ban.

Officials have not yet counted how many enterprises produce plastic bags.

Recall, such an initiative was raised in Parliament in 2015. However, the deputies opposed the ban on the use of plastic bags.
