Number of accidents in Bishkek increases by 81 percent for year

For ten months of 2017, there were 1,840 accidents in Bishkek. This is 81 percent more than in 2016, the deputy chief of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Patrol Police, Ymanaly Sarkulov, said at a press conference today.

According to him, 57 people died in the crashes in the capital . Last year, the figure was higher — 93 people. But the number of victims in the accident increased by 69.9 percent — up to 2,304 people. To reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on the roads, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs proposes to increase the fines again.

«In Kyrgyzstan, the peak of accidents was in 2013. In 2014 fines were raised, and the situation stabilized. Now we propose again to amend the Administrative Code and increase fines,» Ymanaly Sarkulov said.
