Founder of AUCA runs for presidency in Kyrgyzstan

Ex-minister of Education and founder of the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) Kamila Sharshekeeva applied to CEC as a candidate for the presidency. The Central Election Commission informed 24.kg news agency.

According to it, the application was received the day before. Now Kamila Sharshekeeva heads the International University of Central Asia (IUAC) in Tokmak.

Kamila Sharshekeeva announced her intention as far back as in March. Then she explained to journalists why she wants to participate in the race. «I’m far from naive and I understand that lack of financial resources and little political experience is a serious obstacle. But I want to try to wake people up, urging them to actually start fighting corruption and establish democratic values," she said.

Earlier, the CEC received statements on self-nomination from the head of Institute of Legal Analysis NGO Rita Karasartova, the Chairman of League-Anticrisis NGO Nazarbek Nyshanov, the author of the famous «winter will not be» Arstanbek Abdyldaev and the leader of Ata Meken party Omurbek Tekebayev.

Yesterday, two more self-nominees — director of the Bishkek branch of the Latvian firm Maro Sainidin Sultanidinov and the head of the Association of Domestic Manufacturers Bakyt Degenbaev submitted their applications.

Ex-Prime Minister Temir Sariev was nominated from Akshumkar party. Receipt of applications from presidential candidates will continue until August 15.
