European Union to allocate €11 million to reform electoral system

The European Union will provide a grant of €11 million as a budgetary support to the Kyrgyz Republic for the reform of the electoral system. EU Office in Kyrgyzstan reported.

According to it, the funds are provided under the financial agreement between the Kyrgyz government and the European Union, signed in the spring of 2016.

The first tranche of €5 million was transferred in the summer of 2016. The transfer of the second tranche of €3 million is expected in 2017 in case of the compliance of Kyrgyzstan with a number of indicators, including the development of a strategy for democratic and electoral reform.

The European Union will allocate money if the CEC presents an optimal development strategy with clear targets.
