Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged colleagues to make a decision on the transition to a common alphabet at a meeting of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Bishkek.
He recalled that the Commission of the OTS agreed on a single Latin alphabet of 34 letters in September in Baku and «this became a historic event.»
«Our common alphabet is also a sign that we are building the future together. From now on, the member countries need to carry out the necessary transformation based on this alphabet. Turkey, Azerbaijan, Northern Cyprus are ready to switch to a single Turkic alphabet. It would be appropriate for Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to take a step towards the transition to the new alphabet,» Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
