The European Union has transferred to Kyrgyzstan €7 million (648.7 million soms) of budgetary aid on a grant basis for the education sector. The press service of the Ministry of Education reported.
According to it, the EU support is aimed at improving the quality of school education in the Kyrgyz Republic and ensuring its accessibility for all children, regardless of gender, ethnicity and language.
«The joint efforts of the EU and the Cabinet of Ministers are aimed at matching the skills and qualifications offered by the education system with the needs of the labor market and life in a modern democratic society,» the ministry said.
The EU’s assistance focuses on supporting the Ministry of Education and Science’s work in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), namely on promotion of digital literacy, media literacy and «green» skills. The aim is to help schoolchildren prepare more effectively for their future lives.
«The €7 million tranche is the second installment within € 27 million allocated by the European Union for the implementation of the education development strategy in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2023-2026,» the Education Ministry said and added that the EU is one of the key partners in the ongoing reforms in the education sector in the country.
