The authorities of Turkey sent a letter to the UN in which, on behalf of 52 countries, they call for an arms embargo on Israel. Anadolu Ajansı news agency reported.
It is specified that journalists received this information about the initiative from sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
The letter was signed by two more organizations: the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The authors of the letter consider it necessary to impose an embargo, since, in their opinion, Israel violates human rights and international humanitarian law during military operations in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
The Israeli side, as reported, rejects such accusations.
According to the news agency, the countries that signed the letter include Turkey, the UAE, Brazil, China, Iran, South Africa, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
Israel is currently conducting military operations in the Gaza Strip against Hamas movement and in Lebanon against Hezbollah group.
