The Israeli Parliament (Knesset) banned the activities of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) on the territory of the country. Haaretz reports.
Deputies supported the relevant law in the second and third readings. 92 voted for the ban, 10 voted against it.
Now UNRWA will not be able to have its offices on Israeli territory and conduct its activities in the country.
Earlier, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East said that all countries, except the US, have resumed funding. «This is due to the fact that the freeze on US contributions will last until March 2025,» Philippe Lazzarini, the organization’s Commissioner-General, said.
Israel has repeatedly accused the agency of collaborating with Palestinian radical groups. Israeli intelligence claimed that at least 12 UNRWA employees were involved in the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, when more than 1,200 people were killed and about 250 captured.
