Parliamentary elections in Georgia: Mass protest held in Tbilisi

A protest against the preliminary election results, according to which the ruling Georgian Dream party remains in power and will be able to form a government for the fourth time, took place in the center of Tbilisi, near the parliament building, yesterday evening.

The opposition and the country’s president refuse to recognize the official results of the vote and demand new elections, but without the participation of the Central Election Commission.

Several thousand people took part in the rally. The protesters greeted the opposition leaders and held flags of the European Union.

According to the Central Election Commission, the ruling Georgian Dream party won about 54 percent of the votes.

After this, the head of state Salomé Zourabichvili called the recent parliamentary elections a total falsification and a «Russian special operation».

Four opposition parties refuse to recognize the results of the parliamentary elections.
