Chinese company to build coal belt conveyor on Kyrgyzstan's border

Chinese company Xinjiang Dacheng Yuanlong Technology Co., LTD in partnership with Kyrgyzkomur state enterprise is starting construction of a coal logistics center with a belt conveyor on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border. The document has been submitted for public discussion.

The project is expected to be part of a major initiative to improve Kyrgyzstan’s export infrastructure and strengthen logistics ties with China and Uzbekistan.

The project was approved after the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation in August 2023 during the visit of Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China.

The main objective of the project is to create a 7-kilometer conveyor line that will connect the coal deposits of Chon-Alai region with Irkeshtam checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border.

Construction of an additional 157-kilometer conveyor line is envisaged, which will connect the coal deposits with the logistics center. The project is supported by an investment agreement between the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and a Chinese company, which was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in April 2024.

In addition, during the state visit of President Sadyr Japarov to Uzbekistan in July this year, an agreement was signed between Kyrgyzkomur state enterprise and Shanxi Coal Investment Group on the creation of similar infrastructure on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border.

New conveyor systems will automate and intellectualize the coal transportation process, reducing costs and minimizing the impact of the environment. This will make Kyrgyzstan’s coal logistics more sustainable and energy efficient, and will contribute to an increase in coal exports to neighboring countries.

The introduction of belt conveyors for crossing the state border is innovative for the Kyrgyz Republic, which required the development of a regulatory framework for regulating the operation of these facilities.
