School meals: Bishkek City Hall and UN WFP sign cooperation agreement

Bishkek City Hall and UN WFP signed a cooperation agreement. The press service of the capital’s municipality reported.

According to it, the agreement establishes a partnership framework between the parties for further support and expansion of the City Hall’s capabilities in order to improve the quality, efficiency and sustainability of nutrition in city schools and kindergartens.

Within the project, it is planned, in particular, to develop a roadmap for optimizing provision of meals.

The agreement provides for:

  • Partial reconstruction of canteens in schools and kindergartens, improvement of infrastructure, electricity, sewerage, provision of water supply, heating and sanitation;
  • Strengthening the technical capacity of innovative and planet-friendly schools (solar panels, greenhouses, etc.);
  • Introduction of an optimized menu to ensure healthy nutrition in schools and kindergartens.

New sustainable and cost-effective models of school and preschool nutrition will be developed for implementation in city educational institutions and kindergartens.

The municipality added that the City Hall and the UN WFP had previously signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, within the framework of which all planned activities were carried out in a timely and high-quality manner. As a result, canteens were renovated and equipment was replaced in 12 general education organizations. Twelve schools and 3 kindergartens were chosen in order to continue joint work and within the framework of the new agreement.
