Kremlin responds to Armenia's criticism of CSTO

Spokesman for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated that the Kremlin categorically disagrees with Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in his assessment of the CSTO. RIA Novosti reported.

According to Peskov, the CSTO does not pose any threat to Armenia’s sovereignty.

«We must categorically disagree with Mr. Pashinyan. The CSTO cannot and does not pose any threat to Armenia’s sovereignty. On the contrary, this organization guards the sovereignty of its member states. But we will patiently convey this position to the Armenian leadership,» the Russian leader’s spokesman said.

Recall, Nikol Pashinyan has previously repeatedly made harshly critical statements about the CSTO. His main complaint is that the organization failed to fulfill its obligations to Yerevan, taking a wait-and-see attitude during the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In February, the Prime Minister announced that Armenia was suspending its membership in the CSTO, and in May, Yerevan announced that it would stop paying contributions to the organization’s budget.
