Lithuania - most popular EU country for migrants from Kyrgyzstan

The Statistical Office of the European Union has found out what EU country residents of Central Asia most often choose for migration.

It published an article with data on which countries’ citizens came to EU countries as migrants in 2023. The absolute leader is Ukraine, from where refugees continued to go to the European Union. It is followed by Belarus and India.

Lithuania became the top destination for migrants, with three out of the first five lines taken by citizens of Central Asian countries. According to Eurostat monitoring, the top 5 for Lithuania looks like this:

▪️ Belarus — 16,174 people (28 percent of the total number of migrants);

▪️ Uzbekistan — 7,580 people (13.5 percent);

▪️ Kyrgyzstan — 5,086 people (9.1 percent);

▪️ Tajikistan — 4,960 people (8.8 percent);

▪️ India — 3,819 people (6.8 percent).

Uzbekistan is in the top 5 in terms of the number of migrants to the other two Baltic countries. In Latvia, Uzbeks are in second place — 17 percent of all arrived foreigners, and in fifth place in Estonia — 1.9 percent. Migrants from this Central Asian republic also found themselves in third place in the top of Bulgaria — 6.5 percent of the total number of migrants who entered in 2023.

Citizens of Kazakhstan did not enter the top in terms of the number of migrants in any of the EU countries.
