Russia intends to deprive migrants of citizenship for sexual crimes

It is proposed to deprive migrants of citizenship for sexual crimes in Russia. State Duma deputies from A Just Russia — For Truth faction have submitted a draft amendment to the current legislation on depriving migrants of Russian citizenship for violent acts of a sexual nature. The document is available in the State Duma’s electronic database.

«The bill proposes to expand the list of crimes, the commission of which entails termination of Russian citizenship. Along with the minor and moderate offenses contained in the article, it is proposed to include the commission of any violent act or coercion to act of a sexual nature,» the background statement says.

It is also proposed to deprive of Russian citizenship for infringement on life and the use of violence against a government official.

«The party A Just Russia — For Truth proposes to expand this list and deprive migrants of their Russian passports for committing any violent act of a sexual nature, as well as for infringement on life and use of violence against a government official,» faction leader Sergei Mironov told journalists.

According to him, last year about 12 million migrants entered the Russian Federation to work, and many of them will obtain Russian citizenship in the future.

According to current legislation, foreigners can currently lose their acquired Russian citizenship for terrorist and extremist crimes, hostage-taking, organizing an illegal armed group, as well as for disseminating fakes about the Russian army and committing crimes related to sabotage, espionage and treason.
