Azerbaijan has submitted an official application for joining BRICS. TASS reported, citing the spokesperson for the country’s Foreign Ministry.
On August 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin paid an official visit to Azerbaijan for the first time since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
BRICS currently includes nine countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, the UAE, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia. At the end of July, Malaysia submitted an application to join it. Russia is chairing the organization this year.
