The authorities of Kazakhstan have refused to extradite citizen of Kyrgyzstan Alina Gorshenina, who was detained in June at Russia’s request. The Insider reported.
According to the media outlet, the Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office refused to satisfy the request of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office on extradition of Alina Gorshenina on August 8, after which the court ordered her release from custody.
As The Insider notes, Alina Gorshenina was detained on June 1 at the border while trying to enter Kazakhstan from Kyrgyzstan. A criminal case has been opened against her in Russia under Article 296 (threat or violence in connection with the administration of justice or holding of a preliminary investigation) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and she is wanted. In July, a court in Kazakhstan placed Alina Gorshenina in custody pending consideration of the extradition request.
Russian authorities claim that in 2023, Gorshenina, using a Russian SIM card, sent threats to Moscow Regional Court judge Elena Morozova and prosecutor Elena Koloskova, who in January 2021 participated in the arrest of Alexei Navalny, who returned to Russia from Germany.
In July, a court in Almaty also released Natalya Narskaya, a resident of Lyubertsy, accused of extremism in Russia, from a pretrial detention center.
