More than 10 judges brought to criminal liability - Zamirbek Bazarbekov

More than ten judges have been brought to criminal responsibility in 2024. The Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan Zamirbek Bazarbekov told on the air of Ala-Too 24 TV channel, commenting on the detention of two judges of the Chui Regional Court on suspicion of taking a bribe.

On July 2, officers of the State Committee for National Security detained two judges of the criminal board of the Chui Regional Court for bribe extortion. During the detention they tried to escape and got into a traffic accident.

According to the head of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic, there are also judges who are in prison.

«We reveal and arrest them. Imprisonment is the ultimate punishment,» Zamirbek Bazarbekov said.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, 11 criminal cases were initiated against judges in 2023.

Earlier it was reported that the Council of Judges gave consent to prosecution of two judges of the Chui Regional Court, Ulukbek Kalybekov and Tilek Abdyrashitov.

According to the ministry, the submission of the Prosecutor General on giving consent to bring them to criminal responsibility has been considered.

Ulukbek Kalybekov is accused of extortion and taking a bribe, abuse of office.

Tilek Abdyrashitov is also charged with extortion, taking a bribe and abuse of office.
