China proves to be leader in artificial intelligence

The People’s Republic of China has filed 54,000 patents in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) for ten years. Tech Xplore reports.

According to a new report from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), 54,000 AI-related patents were filed from 2014 to 2023. Meanwhile, a quarter of all patent applications were filed in the last year.

The report also states that most of the patents were filed from China. Over the past ten years, more than 38,000 AI innovations have been implemented in this country. Based on this, the organization stated that China is a leader in the field of AI research.

For comparison, 6,276 patents were registered during this period in the United States, which took the second place. South Korea and Japan ranked below — 4,155 and 3,409 applications, respectively. India, which had the highest average annual growth rate of registered research (56 percent), recorded 1,350 inventions in the field of generative AI.
