President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov today, July 2, held talks with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the state residence in Cholpon-Ata city.
The head of state noted that the activities of the UN are aimed at maintaining peace and prosperity for all humanity on the planet. The organization solves global socio-economic and climate problems. The President expressed his support for the initiative to hold a summit of the UN General Assembly, which will take place in New York in September.
According to the president, Kyrgyzstan is actively implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which have become the basis of the country’s state policy and are included in the long-term national development strategy, in particular, this is the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2023-2027 and a two-year joint action plan. Comprehensive national mechanisms for financing Sustainable Development Goals have been adopted, and a high-level Council for its implementation has been created. Kyrgyzstan has made significant progress in this direction and ranked 45th among 166 UN member states.
Kyrgyzstan has set itself the ambitious goal of becoming one of the 30 largest countries by 2030.

The President emphasized that today Kyrgyzstan is one of the recognized leaders in the hydropower market in the region and has high potential in this area. Investments have been attracted to the economy, large enterprises have been opened, and construction of new regional projects in the fields of energy and transport has begun.
The President also touched upon border issues, which to date have been legally fully resolved regarding the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border. Sadyr Japarov indicated that active work is underway to resolve state border issues between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and emphasized that the Kyrgyz Republic always adheres to a peaceful and diplomatic resolution of issues.
Speaking about the exchange of external debt for sustainable development projects, Sadyr Japarov said that it is proposed to study the issue of restructuring the country’s external public debt using debt replacement mechanisms for green projects.
The head of state reaffirmed the country’s aspiration to further close partnership with the UN and all its members in order to strengthen international peace and security, sustainable development and human rights.
In turn, UN Secretary-General António Guterres thanked President Sadyr Japarov for the warm welcome and emphasized that the Kyrgyz Republic is an example for other countries. The organization is always ready to support the country in all ongoing reforms.
