OSCE to support Kyrgyzstan's initiatives on mountains and climate change issues

The OSCE will support Kyrgyzstan’s initiatives on mountain issues and climate change. The Chair-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Minister for Foreign, Trade and European Affairs of Malta, Ian Borg said at a meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov.

According to the press service of the head of state, they discussed issues of interaction within the OSCE, including regional cooperation, issues of combating crime, realization of the potential of the Border Service, law enforcement agencies, support for entrepreneurship in the regions of Kyrgyzstan, development of e-commerce and others.

Sadyr Japarov expressed confidence that Ian Borg’s visit would give additional impetus to further development of Kyrgyzstan’s cooperation within the OSCE.

He thanked the OSCE for the successful project activities in Kyrgyzstan in the sphere of socio-economic development, combating crime and ensuring security, and expressed readiness to continue active interaction with the OSCE.

The head of state emphasized that in connection with climate change processes, one of the main priorities of the country’s economic policy is the promotion of green economy, introduction and spread of environmentally friendly technologies and environmental protection, and in this regard Kyrgyzstan is interested in developing cooperation with international partners to promote green initiatives.

In turn, the OSCE Chair-in-Office Ian Borg confirmed the readiness to continue providing support within the OSCE competence. He told the President about the current activities of the OSCE within the framework of the priority areas of the organization, relevant aspects of the work of the Programme Office and the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, and prospects for cooperation.
